The Royal Oak Commission for the Arts holds its first Artist Networking Event on Monday, Oct. 19, at Hotel Royal Oak, according to Oakland County Times.
The gathering runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the boutique hotel at 811 E. 11 Mile Road. Artists of all disciplines are invited, whether they work in painting, photography, sculpture, music, writing or performing arts, the Oakland County Times reported.
The event is open to artists from Royal Oak and surrounding communities. Food will be catered by Blue Goat.
The commission, which promotes public art in Royal Oak, is expanding its outreach to local creatives. The Royal Oak Civic Foundation says its grant supported a new Emerging Artist Laureate Program. Two Royal Oak artists were selected to serve as Emerging Artist Laureates: photographer Sam Berger and interdisciplinary artist Mika Walters, according to the Royal Oak Civic Foundation.
Berger, whose metal-print piece "Family of Five" combines silhouettes with the Orion Nebula, described her work's theme in the foundation’s profile. "This is an emblematic image that I hope shows viewers that we are all more connected than we think … under the same stars, same nebulas," Berger said.
All disciplines are welcome.
Those interested in attending can RSVP through the commission's online registration form.
