The Berkley Bears are scheduled to host the Bloomfield Hills Blackhawks at Hurley Field on Friday, Oct. 16, in a Week 8 OAA crossover matchup at 7 p.m., according to MaxPreps.

Both teams enter the game at 3-4 overall and riding one-game winning streaks. Berkley won at Avondale 25-18 in overtime on Friday, Oct. 9. Bloomfield Hills beat Troy 54-28 on Friday, Oct. 9.

The crossover pits Berkley, third in the OAA Gold at 3-2, against Bloomfield Hills, fourth in the OAA White at 1-2, according to the teams’ MaxPreps schedules. The Bears have two regular-season games remaining after a rough start that saw them lose their first three contests by a combined 138-6. Since then, Berkley has won three of four league games, falling only to Royal Oak 35-23 on Oct. 2.

The Blackhawks' season has followed a similar arc. Bloomfield Hills opened with a 42-0 win over L'Anse Creuse but dropped three straight, including a 56-0 loss at Stoney Creek, according to MaxPreps. The Blackhawks have since won two of their last three, including a 28-20 victory over West Bloomfield on Sept. 25 that the Detroit News reported was only the second time in program history Bloomfield Hills had beaten West Bloomfield. Coach Scott Merchant, hired ahead of the 2025 season, has guided that turnaround.

One number to watch: Bloomfield Hills is 0-3 on the road this season.

All three away losses came by at least 30 points. At home, the Blackhawks are 3-1. Berkley is 1-2 at Hurley Field, with its lone home win a 28-7 decision over Waterford Kettering, also on Sept. 25.

Berkley has scored 103 points and allowed 198 through seven games. Bloomfield Hills has scored 151 points and allowed 222. The Bears' defense will face a Blackhawks offense that scored 54 points against Troy on Oct. 9, while Bloomfield Hills must contend with a Berkley squad that found a way to win in overtime at Avondale.

Sophomore quarterback Asher Dean leads the Bears' offense in his first year as the varsity starter. Senior captain Max Giles set the tone for the season in a Berkley Spectator preview published Sept. 18: "My goals for this year are to make the playoffs. I want all of our teammates to get as strong as they can and prepare for a long year."

Berkley closes the regular season at Athens on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m.
