Berkley High School has a new varsity softball head coach. MaKayla Frost will lead the Bears into the 2027 spring season. A community meet-and-greet with Frost was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Collaborative Center at Berkley High.

Berkley Bears Athletics announced the hire on Sept. 21, saying the program was excited about what Frost brings and eager to see the Bears take the field together. The department followed up on Sept. 30 with an open invitation for families and fans to come meet Coach Frost at the Collaborative Center.

The announcement scheduled the meet-and-greet for Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m.

A follow-up post listed a Berkley Athletic Booster Meeting afterward at 7 p.m.

Frost played college softball at Albion College, an NCAA Division III program in Albion, Michigan, where she was listed as a senior on the 2025 roster. Before college, she earned two All-Conference and one All-District selection at second base during her high school career, along with the Captain's Award, according to her Albion College biography. The biography lists her hometown as Waterford and her high school as Waterford Kettering.

The Bears compete in the Oakland Activities Association White Division. Late in the 2025-26 season, Berkley beat Groves 15-5 on May 30, topped Detroit Country Day 5-2 on May 18 and swept West Bloomfield 22-4 and 18-1 on May 15, according to MaxPreps. The Bears also split a doubleheader with Cass Tech on May 22, winning 13-11 before falling 0-11 in the nightcap.

Frost takes over a program with postseason history. In June 2022, Berkley won its second straight MHSAA district championship, knocking off Royal Oak and Ferndale along the way, according to a Berkley Schools announcement.

The MaxPreps schedule, last updated Oct. 1, lists an April 19, 2027, trip to Divine Child, with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
