Royal Oak, Berkley and Huntington Woods riders can use SMART services without paying fares on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The waiver covers fixed-route buses, Connector, ADA Paratransit and SMART Flex, according to an agency announcement reported by ClickOnDetroit.
Riders should check operating hours and plan their return trips. The fare waiver does not mean every service runs around the clock.
Local routes
SMART’s Royal Oak community page lists routes including 430 Main St., 450/460 Woodward Local, 461/462 FAST Woodward, 730 Ten Mile Crosstown and 740 Twelve Mile Crosstown.
In Berkley, listed routes include 415 Greenfield-Southfield, 450/460 Woodward Local, 461/462 FAST Woodward and 740 Twelve Mile Crosstown.
Huntington Woods has the Woodward Local and FAST Woodward routes, along with the Ten Mile and Twelve Mile crosstown routes.
Reserve Connector and ADA trips ahead
All three communities have Connector service, which provides curb-to-curb trips by advance reservation. Rides depend on availability.
SMART’s Connector information lists weekday operating hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Riders can call 866-962-5515 to reserve a trip and confirm eligibility and booking requirements.
ADA Paratransit serves certified riders whose disabilities prevent them from using fixed-route buses. Advance reservations are required, and pickup and destination addresses generally must be within three-quarters of a mile of a SMART fixed-route bus stop.
SMART also lists Flex service in parts of Royal Oak. Riders should consult the Flex service maps to check whether their trip falls within a service zone.
The Detroit Department of Transportation will also waive Election Day fares, ClickOnDetroit reported.
Route schedules and trip-planning information are available at smartbus.org or through SMART customer service at 866-962-5515.
